This project investigates how the arts and artistic research contribute to migration and integration by fostering belonging, supporting cultural memory, and shaping more inclusive understandings of Canadian identity. The project also examines the data and digital infrastructures through which arts impact becomes visible, measurable, shareable, and publicly recognized. As arts organizations, funders, universities, and policy actors increasingly rely on data systems, metadata, digital archives, and impact reporting platforms, these infrastructures shape which forms of cultural participation are legible and which remain invisible. The project therefore investigates how arts impact in migration and integration can be assessed in ways that are inclusive, context-sensitive, and attentive to data justice. The project combines a review of existing literature, an environmental scan of current arts impact practices, and focus group discussions with artists, arts organizations, and community stakeholders. It seeks to develop preliminary impact indicators that recognize settlement outcomes, but also belonging, cultural memory, and migrant contributions to public culture.
